8th August 2018
Buxton
Berry Brow A616
Clear.
However, a short section of the lane near Castle Hill (south of Huddersfield) is narrow and the hedges either side are growing quickly. Look out for walkers.
I can't remember the exact location but a section 15 minutes or so before this is moderately steep and getting heavily erroded. If you're on a big bike I'd be cautious about going up (so heading towards Buxton), down should be ok if you're careful. Looking at the map I'd say this is almost definitely Cheese Gate Nab Lane, just east of Hepworth.

December 2018
Lancashire

N of Slaidburn at SD692548
S of Hornby at SD608625
No problems.
The track over Salter Fell has been repaired just before Christmas (not finished yet but no problem). The northern section was improved a few years back. The southern slope was not bad but it did have some exposed reinforcing rods from the remains of some old concrete. However this section has been smoothed out and the grapefruit-sized rocks replaced by rolled limestone. Whether this is an improvement or not is a matter of opinion but it is passable on any bike (I rode it as a noob on a 125 road bike just before and after the work.)
n.b. This track is very exposed, frequently in cloud and poor phone signal. It also has TRO prohibiting 4x4s but allowing motorcycles.

Melling at SD604711
3km E of Melling at SD627715
No problems.
OK for any bike

Leck Fell at SD657775
Ireby at SD652758
No problems but forestry work at the north end is making a normally dry stone track a bit slippery and the southern section is getting a bit washed out in places.
I rode it OK on a 125 road bike.

If you are planning on use the routes around the Salisbury Plain you can see all the byways listed here for Wiltshire. Will not work in Chrome!
http://wiltscouncil.maps.arcgis.com/app ... dd49d89d22

On the routes you'll find the path number which you can cross reference to the link below. The area gets cut up in the winter time and some byways will get closed.

TRO.
Note to the linesman. There is now a TRO on Jacobs Ladder heading out of Stoney Middleton towards Sheffield. There are currently no signs up so it's still usable until they are posted. As an alternative it might be worth taking the road into Calver, straight on onto the B6001 to Hassop. Right there towards Rowland, right again through Rowland then back along Bramley Lane to the B6001. Then back to Stoney Middleton via Calver. Decent lane, great views.
