What's it like across thew South Downs?

Howdy,

looking at the trail in Google Earth -north of Brighton -> Petersfield, it looks like most of it's on tarmac.
Has anyone ridden that section ?
Any nice off-road stretches to look out for ?
I know the South's full of softies, but ever hopeful...

Cheers

I ride Green Lanes around the South Downs and it is hilly with a mix of flint, sand and chalk - wet chalk is the slipperiest thing known to man.
Not sure about the TET route through this area as I haven't ridden it yet.
