TET Italy Part 4 (Maggiore): Mostly Unridable as NOT LEGAL

Post by ershn8d » Fri Sep 14, 2018 3:57 pm

Hi!

We tried to ride TET Italy Part 4 during last 2 days in Lago Maggiore area. It was really sad to find that MOST of the offroad parts are marked with "Do not enter" sign (Red circle, white inside) as per some decision of local consul as of 2012.

Direction WEST from Lago Maggiore:
45 48' 55"N 8 27' 37"E: Bridge, "Do not enter" sign. As we stopped before the sign for a few minutes, Carabineri arrived and kindly asked us NOT TO PROCEED. It is 99% certain they came there to tell us, not just "passing by".
45 50' 29"N 8 30' 32"E: Cannot go on with offroad part, "Do not enter" sign.
From Gargallo to the WEST: Prohibition sign with "1km distance" comment. After 1 km there is some crossing and it is not clear if it is possible to proceed.

Direction EAST from Lago Maggiore:
45 56' 40"N 8 42' 49" E (might not be right). Where the offroad part starts around San Michele village): this is MTB track, it is closed since 2012 with "Do not enter" sign and a tape (that was ripped off)
45 58' 44"N 8 46' 28" E (Linea Cadorna): the TET is a bike/walkway around Linea Cadorna and is closed with "Do Not Enter" sign. There are ridable trails in the area but not the TET one.

I might be wrong with coordinates and points, but in general we found only 1 TET Section in the Maggiore area that was LEGAL. All others had some potential issues.

We had our share of fun on some "legal" ?trails? we found - but I strongly advise anyone TO SKIP the part 4 at least from Gargallo to Camping Tresiana in Switzerland...

Most of the signs on TET and around are like this one:

Actually not yet. I just simply removed the forbidden tracks, but haven't found an alternative yet.
Right now there are problems all around the Alps due to snow, land slides and fallen trees...
So it ain't the right time to go scouting!
