The next day we had to get as far back as possible. The plan initialy was to stick to two lane roads. We started of fine but it soon started to rain. Thus not having any urge to stop to have a drink we drove through entire Bosnia in the drisseling rain. It was not until we crossed the boarder with Croatia around 2PM that the rain stopped. When we got to the normally paradisical Plivici lake area, we were caught in a dense fog. We kind of had to chase eatch others tail light and ride with both indicators blinking in the hope we would be noticed soon enough from cars coming up behind (as we were only going about 40km/h for fear of crashing into something). Once in Croatia however the weather improved and we soon could speed up on some nice backroads. After crossing Slovenia, we got onto a utterly nice backroad.(the 919) It doesn't look like much but it's a blast for on-road riding. Almost no traffic and predictable bend-after-bend-after-bend for over 60kms. Closer to Lubliana the roads became buzzier and less interesting so close to the capital we decided to take the big highway all the way to Lake Bled. We got there by 6PM and went to drink a beer in a hotel by the lake. Being used to Balkan pricing we dreamed of sleeping in the hotel. This dream was quickly shattered though. 200€ a night is a bit much ... So we then used the Internet to book a very nice Hostel 2km's away for a tenth of that price.

In the morning we got up and headed for Austria, this time the other way roand the Julian Alps. The routes were nice and soon we got into some fast-paced riding through the mountains all the way to Innsbrouck, were the train back home was waiting. Apart from the blissful alpine roads, the most astonishing thing that happened was that we got took over by an old fat biker with his fat wife on a honda goldwing. Our only excuse being our not ideal road tires :).

And thus our first TET adventure was finished, but it left a taste for more ... a lot more...

Great Report, Corneelbaert! I plan to ride some of that route in 2020. Can I ask what the Dusseldorf to Innsbruck train cost? Did you like it?
