TET on a yamaha super tenere 1200, anyone?

Post by hannesd » Sat May 11, 2019 1:25 pm

As the title says, i'm wondering if any guys out here have done parts of the TET somewhere with the S10 1200.
thinking about getting a super tenere 1200 , now still owning an xtz 660.
i know the 660 is much more suited to these kind of trails, but since 99.5% of my milage is done on street (to work and back) i'm concidering the 1200 for more comfort.
i do plan the accasional trip abroad to find some gravel roads and rip them. but how far have other S10 riders pushed their S10 on the trails?
the S10 is a real heavy beast but doesn't feel like it when riding, only when laying down :-p
i'd gladly hear your thoughts on the S10,preferably of current S10 riders or ex-S10 riders.
thanks, Hannes.

Hi Hannes,
if you feel comfortable on the bike, if you have to lift it up, do U-turns on tight trails, if you can afford crash-spare-parts and have the physical fitness, to handle the bike on slippery ground why not.

Hi Hannes,

I own both a S10 an a F650 GS Dakar,
and although I do also a lot of gravel roads with the bigger one, some parts of the Slovenian and Croatian parts of the TET I did so far,
would not really be fun with the 1200.
Due to very muddy conditions we even skipped some parts with the 650.

So, a lot is possible with the S10, but in my opinion its not fun on such tracks,
and you have to expect more damage if dropping it 😩

So its a good and reliable bike, but for TET I sometimes would even prefer something lighter than my 650

Greetings

Don't do it !
I travelled on a KTM690 Enduro and carried all my camping kit, if I didn't have to travel 1800km home by road I would have preferred something much lighter for the 850km covered offload !!
