Tony, what's your budget?
I don't have a fixed budget.
I'm ready to pay what is needed, but prefer to spend my money on fuel rather than electronics...

Then maybe you could have a look at macbook air. They are a bit on the pricy side but quite compact and powerfull enough so you can use it for your photos and of cource all the garmin gps stuff and they have great battery life.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm more a pc than Mac kind of guy.

I can get a refurbished HP Elitebook 2570p at a very reasonable price - maybe worth considering..?

Looks bulky but rigid. It definitely will need some extra ram (whose prices are skyrocketing) and the display resolution is a bit outdated so keep in mind that applications might require something better to be installed.

You know your needs better than any of us but I wouldn't invest on a 6 years old specs laptop.

A bit bulky is OK with me, if it means i get a sturdy unit.
I can up grade both RAM and storage at a reasonable price - and the refurbish shop provides 2 years warranty on all products.

I share your concern regarding the display resolution - and buying an old specs laptop.

Choosing what to buy comes down to a balance between what I need, what I want and how much I'm prepared to pay...
I won't be needing a new laptop until the travel/riding season kicks off, so I still have a couple of month to decide.

My riding season is (hopefully) about to take off soon and it's about time I pick up a new travel laptop.
After some digging around I've more or less decided on what I'm going to buy - Acer Switch 3.
It's probably not powerful enough to edit videos, but besides that it seems tick all the right boxes - and it has a reasonable price tag.
