Guys, how are you dealing with charging? Most rugged phones have a rubber plug for the USB port, e.g. USB isn't waterproof, or in newer samsung or apple phones, the charge port will be disabled when wet.

For me however its very important that the whole thing works in rain, because thats actually the time when I want to get to my destination quickly and without stopping.

Catching up on this
I have the waterproof Garmin GPSMAP 276 Cx for all conditions to cover the basics (transfers, track, speed, fuel).
and a smartphone for internet connectivity and online maps, better zooming, more POI etc (using OSMAnd+) and as a backup. It is claimed as to be waterproof and dustproof without any plugs (Galaxy S5 Neo) but I do not take chances and do not expose it to heavy rain really.

For a rainy ride to get from A to B quickly, the Garmin will do nicely. Waterproof and easy to use with gloves, charged all the time in the cradle.
The smartphone is more of a fair weather exploring device.
