Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and adventure biking in general. My last bike was a BMW gs 800 which I only took off road a couple of times. Inexperience, the weight and the fact that I could barely pick it up held me back and I sold it. I've just bought a crf250l and am in the early stages of planning a trip to Cape Town via west Africa on it. My first impressions are that I absolutely love it and can't wait to do some off road riding on it.

Hi 7800!
Welcome and congrats for the choice of your bike, the little honda will take you everywhere unlike these monsters everybody wants (sorry for the monsters' owners). I've had one for almost 4 years, 20000 km, about 18000 on the dirt, no problem!
If you want info about the bike, I'm your man!
PS : better to install a skid plate, ground clearance not enough on that bike!
Have fun!

Hi Meetchee

Thanks for your kind welcome. I love the crf250 and cant wait to start taking her out. I’m at home in Cape Town until January when I bring my kit back with me. I bought her with some mods already done she has barkbusters, bash plate, rear rack and the mirrors have been changed to a small round convex one. Thanks for the offer of information I will definitely take you up on it.

I owned a klr650 and plastic can get very expensive believe me. It’s one of the main reasons I picked the 250l over the rally. Don’t get me wrong I think that the rally is a great looking bike. It just wouldn’t stay that way with my riding skills :D

The rally model is more expensive and much heavier(144><157) , apart from the great look I can't see any reason for buying this bike?
Plastic on this bike is not expensive, check this out : https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda ... ac-crf250l
I live in belgium, I always buy my parts in the US, great service and fast delivery.
I've already done a lot of long trips on this bike, the only thing to do is oiling the chain! Next year in May, I'm going to follow the trans euro trail solo from Italy to Greece, that's 6500km.
Here's the link to a video I made when I crossed Spain solo two years ago : https://youtu.be/1-jJCXv0WmI
